Proje Özeti
This module focuses on the effects of digitalisation on democracy within the framework of European Union law. Digitalisation offers many benefits for the development of democracies. But it can also have a devastating impact on democracy and human rights. Protecting democracy, the rule of law and human rights in the process of digitalisation is one of the EU's key policy priorities. The module offers two undergraduate and one postgraduate courses to students at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. The first undergraduate course is EU Law, which aims to provide students with a broader knowledge of EU law. This course covers the institutional structure of the EU, the legal system, and the main EU policies. The second undergraduate course, Digital Democracy, covers the impact of digitalisation on politics and governance, the challenges it poses to democracy and human rights, and EU legislation in this area. The module aims to enhance students' critical thinking about the impact of digital technologies on democratic systems and human rights, and to introduce them to EU-wide legal protection mechanisms. The course aims to inform students about various issues such as the digital public sphere, e-government, participatory democracy, open government data, freedom of information, protection of personal data, regulation of digital platforms. The master's course “Democracy in the Digital Age” will explore the relationship between digitalisation and democracy in greater depth and detail, and encourage students to write assignments, articles, and dissertations on the topic. The project will also organise a series of conferences on various topics such as the digital public sphere, e-government, participatory democracy, freedom of information, protection of personal data. These conferences will bring together students, academics, public servants and civil society organisations to discuss the relationship between digitalisation and democracy.
