Özet

Digital technologies are significantly impacting the current economic structure and are paving the way for new approaches in defining traditional economic relationships. From this perspective, the evolutionary process of these technologies and the analysis of future scenarios are crucially important in terms of ensuring economic prosperity and maintaining fairness and efficiency. The definition of the digital economy, its stakeholders and the relationships within the economic structure are changing dynamically through digitalization, reinforcing the importance of analyzing both the history and the future of our economic system through this lens. This chapter aims to highlight the fact that digitalization is far from simply technological advancements but a paradigm shift, altering the structure of the global economy while creating new approaches to production relationships and interactions between economic agents. Different viewpoints and definitions regarding digitalization are discussed, along with various sectors benefiting from digitalization in the economic system at different levels and new technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies driving this shift are briefly explained, emphasizing their importance and role in these rapid advancements. Countries where digitalization and technological advancement can be efficiently adopted have the potential to enjoy a competitive advantage. This means policymakers around the world should act swiftly to transition to an inclusive and innovative economic structure in this transformative era which requires a proactive approach that takes potential shortcomings and negative consequences into account to promote fairness and efficiency.
