Abstract

The relationship and continuity of the Huns and Turks have been a subject of significant attention among Turkish historians for almost a century. However, there have been few studies that have examined the early Tang Dynasty’s perception of this continuity. In many ways whether the Turks were descendants of the Huns is still unanswered. This study investigates the early Tang perception of the connection and continuity between the Huns and Turks through an examination of the historical text ‘Zhenguan Zhengyao’. The findings of this research aim to contribute to our understanding of the early Tang elites’ perception of this issue.
