Özet

Phonemes are divided into segmental phonemes and suprasegmental phonemes. To define simply, phonemes are linguistic units such as vowels, consonants, semi-vowels, diphthongs that most of which can be shown in writing. Phonemes such as stress, tone, pause, juncture, melody, and length, which exist in speech as semantic distinguishers but are not shown in writing, are called suprasegmental phonemes. Suprasegmentals have functions such as semantic distinguishing, expressing emotions in communication, and ensuring fluency in language. In spoken language, suprasegmental phonemes such as stress, tone/intonation, speed, and melody play a major role in changing or limiting the meaning of the expression. As it is known, dialect studies are carried out on speech texts. Spoken language, which is the main source of spoken texts, consists of both segmental and suprasegmental phonemes. For this reason, dialect studies are of great importance in determining the segmental and suprasegmental phonemes of a language, dialect or subdialect. In dialect studies, conducted in Türkiye, there are problems with segmental phonemes as well as with suprasegmental phonemes. To date, many studies have been conducted expressing problems related to Türkiye Turkish dialect studies, but the problems related to suprasegmental phonemes have not been mentioned. The subject of this study is to determine the problems that arise in transcribing and examining suprasegmental phonemes in dialect studies. Some problems arouse in detecting suprasegmental phonemes such as stress, tone, intonation, melody and transcribing them, especially since they occur depending on the acoustic properties of sound such as volume, pitch, frequency, and length. The aim of the study is to reveal the problems related to the transcription and analysis of suprasegmental phonemes in dialect studies, and to offer some solutions to them. Problems related to suprasegmental phonemes in dialect studies are discussed under the headings of Transcription Problem and Analysis Problem.
