Özet

This article is mainly based on the outcome of the first stage of the oral-history project Living History of Central Asian People: The Case of Kyrgyzstan. In this project, the actors and eyewitnesses of the Soviet period, who are now seventy years old and more, tell us their life stories and share their memories; in this way, they constitute important sources for the history of Kyrgyzstan during the Soviet period. Their memories, feelings and stories do not always match official or generally accepted historical accounts. In this article, not only the political and economic aspects of Soviet Kyrgyzstan will be addressed, but everyday life will be also revealed as one main focal point. The memories of traditions and lifestyles in Kyrgyzstan during the Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, and Gorbachev eras will be analysed. © 2010 Global Oriental.
