This study investigates how the translation of philosophy for children (P4C) texts can be analyzed from a translation studies perspective and proposes a systematic analytical framework for this text type. P4C texts occupy a distinct position within children's literature, requiring multi-layered analysis due to the balance they must strike between the abstract nature of philosophical discourse and the cognitive level of the child reader. Yet studies analyzing P4C translation through a process-oriented methodology remain scarce. Drawing on this gap, the study transforms the three stages of the Interpretive Theory of Meaning, namely comprehension, deverbalization, and re-expression, into an analytical framework for analyzing the translation of P4C texts. The framework is applied through ten examples drawn from four books of the Les Goûters Philo series by Brigitte Labbé and Michel Puech, translated into Turkish as Çıtır Çıtır Felsefe by Azade Aslan. The findings indicate that the translator assumes an active interpretive role through nine qualitatively distinct re-expression forms, including conceptual reinterpretation, adaptation to child language, target culture-oriented substitution, and transformation from concrete to abstract, and that the tension between philosophical fidelity and conceptual accessibility constitutes a structural feature of this text type’s translation. The study positions P4C translation as an independent object of inquiry in Turkish translation studies for the first time. It demonstrates that the Interpretive Theory of Meaning provides a functional, systematic, and transferable analytical framework for this field.
