Abstract

In this study the selective determination of tannic acid (TA) was performed using a glassy carbon (GC) electrode modified with 1-benzoyl-3-(pyrrolidine) thiourea (PrTu). PrTu was deposited on the GC electrode in nonaqueous media by cyclic voltammetry. PrTu-GC electrode demonstrated an electrocatalytic effect on the oxidation of TA using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method in 0.1 M Britton Robinson (BR) buffer solution of pH 2. Under optimum conditions, linear calibration graphs were obtained over the TA concentration range 2.0 × 10− 6 to 4.2 × 10− 5 M. The limit of detection (LOD) was found as 0.6 μM. The proposed electrode was applied to the determination of spiked TA in tea. The proposed method was also applied for the determination of TA in orange juice samples and the results of the experiments were in agreement with that obtained by the spectrophotometric comparison method.
