Abstract

© 2019, International Relations Council of Turkey. All rights reserved. The Ottoman Empire went through a highly significant change and transformation process at the period following the declaration of Tanzimat Edict (1839) regarding the mechanism and philosophy of administration. This article aims to reveal and explain the influence of Britain and the USA on the above mentioned processes within the Ottoman Empire. In this context, the “recommendations” from Britain and the USA were researched regarding the areas such as law, economy, citizenship, military and education; and then the question to what extent these recommendations were influential on the transformation process that occurred within these areas were handled. The Anglo-Saxon influence was compared to that of French which has already been covered in the literature.
