Özet
Self; can be evaluated as the sum of all internal and external characteristics of the individual. It includes evaluations with a unique dynamic, consisting of the individual’s views and opinions about himself, and has affective, cognitive and behavioral dimensions. Especially in children, supporting self-perception contributes positively to the development of self-confidence. Based on this situation, it is of great importance to provide guidance that supports self-development. Because the positive self-perception gained during this period directly affects children’s self-confidence in adulthood. Many situations can be used to guide children at this point. One of these situations is music studies. This study examined the effects of music studies on the self-definition skills of children attending primary school. The study was designed as a single-group pretest-posttest experimental model using quantitative research methods. In this context; weekly sessions were prepared by reviewing the literature and considering the developmental characteristics of the children. Music training was given to the children for 8 weeks. At the end of the process, it was seen that the music studies did not cause a significant difference in the self-definition skills of the children according to the gender of the children, and it was concluded that the 8-week training contributed positively. The significance (p) value was taken as 0.05 in the interpretation of the analyses. Based on the obtained results; it is recommended that artistic studies such as music contribute to the self-definition skills of children and therefore support should be provided to direct children to activities that are suitable for their developmental characteristics, individual characteristics, interests and desires.
