Özet

Shoemaking, a benchmark of civilisation, has a known history of around four thousand years in Anatolia. Humans first wrapped their feet in leather or skin to protect them from external afflictions, then, as civilisation progressed, developed the techniques of shoemaking and turned it into a handicraft. In this study, the historical development of shoes, which play an important role in Turkish culture, and different shoe kinds such as çizme, çarik, edik, çedik, başmak, kelik,yemeni, mest,potin, lapçin, kaloş, çapula, terlik, kundura,postal, kamerçin, and takunya, are analyzed.
