Özet

Love plays a critical role in the academic life of students, in particular in their

social and emotional development given that it may impact their personality,

learning, career development, or future mental health. Loving pedagogy was

also shown to be a signi􀏐icant determiner of teacher well-being, implying that it

is essential for not only students but also teachers. Hence, working on preservice

teachers’ loving pedagogy perceptions assumes importance. The

present paper employs a relatively innovative analytic methodology, the joint

display of the 􀏐indings, to enable a more holistic and unitary presentation of the

results. Joint display analysis is a circular process during which researchers

refer to the data several times to extract the most explanatory combinations.

Data was collected through the Disposition toward Loving Pedagogy (DTLP)

scale, prepared by Yin et al. (2019). The qualitative data was collected through

semi-structured focus group interviews. The participants were 259 pre-service

EFL teachers. The pre-service teachers in the present study reported that they

would view diversity in their classes as a resource provided that it does not

pose a threat. However, they reported a moderate approach to loving pedagogy

dimensions of the teaching and learning process. The focus group interview

results indicated that they are well aware of the emotional aspects of the

learning process.
