Accordingly, the verb b-d-l, which is the root of the word abdal, has undergone a letter change. Its origin is b-t-l and it expresses one’s turning to Allah. Abdal also means walî, âbid and sâlih. As it is understood from the narrations, the abdals are found in Damascus. In addition, various cities such as ricalullah, Mecca, Magrib, Damascus, which are known by different names such as ahyâr, nücebâ, nükabâ, amed, gavs, usab, are making their home. According to narrations, the abdals, who differ in their numbers, are both in pre-Islamic societies and among Muslims. Abdals, who are understood to have acquired this qualification with their zuhd, taqwa and good morals, will be active as long as the earth exists. The abdals, who are replaced by someone else after the death of one, also took the prophets as their guide.
