Özet

The aim of this study is to examine the change process of recreation areas in the city of Iznik in the context of sustainability in terms of space, economy and society. As well as its historical and natural features, its location has caused Iznik to receive short-and long-term migrations. The intensifying population, on the other hand, by accelerating the urbanisation process led to a change in the spatial pattern. The data collection process was completed by using in-depth interview and unstructured observation techniques from qualitative research methods. The data obtained from the interview texts were analysed with the MaxQda 12.0 qualitative research program and a concept map was created relating to how the participants experienced sustainability in recreation areas. The first findings are in direction of that the spatial pattern of the city has changed in an integrated manner with the neoliberal economic system and the commodification of recreational areas makes it difficult to protect the city in a sustainable way. In this context, it is expected that the study will contribute to the plan makers to review the recreation areas in a way that will ensure the environmental sustainability of the city of Iznik and to operate a process with the participation of the local people.
