Özet

Tombstones, constitutes an important part of cultural assets. As their format, appearance and decorative features they are evaluated in Turkish Plastic Arts by reflecting the national folklore with their inscriptions like identities of those who died, their families, occupations, titles, used names, nicknames, causes of death, diseases or wishes from others. In addition, they contain information that provides a continuous transfer to the future as documents. But, their numbers are rapidly declining with each passing day, because they are not preserved much as monumental works. In this article, thirty-four tomb stones which belong to the Cevheri Ali Efendi Mosque's graveyard in Yozgat are evaluated according to their form, material, inscriptions, decorations and personal data. So, providing information about this area in Turkish plastic arts and folk culture will be determined. The Graveyard of Yozgat Cevheri Ali Efendi Mosque, which shows the tombstone tradition of Anatolia, is given in this article as a small but tidy catalogues. Thirty-four tombs have been identified as a result of our research. Three main types were determined, tombstones on earth graves, tombs as covers and sarcophagi format tombstones. Twelve of these are graves for men, sixteen of them for women. Six tombstones couldn't identified, due to damage on their inscription. Chronologically, the stones belong to a time frame of 137 years of 1787 - 1924. It's been also understood that at different dates on some graves second burials were made. As material is used mostly regional yellow-colored stone and as well as marble. In this article, the gravestones of the graveyard of Yozgat Cevheri Ali Efendi Mosque are determined as their material, date, ornamentation, contact information and location according to the Turkish plastic arts and folk culture.
