Abstract

The petrographic characteristics of the samples were determined by thin section optical microscopy analysis, furthermore the chemical structures were determined by XRF, SEM-EDS and TGA analyses. According to their matrix/ aggregate content, aggregate type/distribution/dimension, porosity, and the properties of clay (matrix) structure of ceramics were classified. The clay types of the samples are mainly illite, smectite and kaolinite. The samples have similarities with the soil of the region and they are also similar to each other in terms of both chemical compositions and petrographic characteristics. According to their Sr and Zr content, the samples must have been manufactured mainly by using local clay with terrigenous origin as raw materials.
