This study examined the concepts of “game and toy” in illustrated children’s books. The data consisted of 41 children’s books in Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Güvenevler Children’s Library. The books were published or translated into Turkish between 2015 and 2020 and covered the periods from infancy to primary school. The study was designed in qualitative research using the document analysis technique. The researchers reviewed the relevant literature and similar data collection tools to develop the “Assessment Form of Games and Toys in Illustrated Children’s Books” to analyze the chosen books. The illustrations and texts in the given books were analyzed and interpreted using the form and descriptive analysis methods. It was concluded that the elements related to games and toys were included in both texts and illustrations in most of the given books (81%). However, some included games and toys only in the text (12%) or only in illustrations (7%). It is suggested to consult expert opinion and improve children’s books as they can be role model through the book characters and provide different games to support creativity.
