Mirjakıp Duvaltulı who is one of these Jadid Kazakh intellectuals is a famous name in Kazakh literature. The Jadid perception governs his literary works. Meanwhile, he is an outstanding figure of Kazakh modernization and independence movement. His play Balkıya written in 1922 is one the first productions of Kazakh theatre. A four act play, Balkıya has contributed to the improvement of the Kazakh theatre. Though here in Turkey we have some works on Davlatuli’s writings, there is no single study on his play Balkıya. This study examines this play in the context of relatedness of ideology and literature. Kazakh societal life is viewed on the basis of literature. The focus is on the problem of the woman and Kazakhs’ attitude to woman as rendered in Balkıya.
