Özet

The supply-side explanations with regards to middle-income trap are based on a relation from productivity growth to rapid economic growth and emphasize a kind of economic policy which makes a shift in growth strategies in order to raise productivity growth. On the other hand, findings of this study point out the importance of i) domestic demand and ii) especially household consumption expenditures, and iii) investment expenditures with special reference to Turkey; in other words the demand-side dimension of the problem. The suggestion of this study is to take into account the demand-side dimension of a strategy which targets to escape middle-income trap.
