Socio-economic evaluation of feed usage of classical and genetically modified corn kinds in Turkey

Özet

Corn is a strategical plant which is used in lots of sectors in Turkey and world such as animal feed and food because of its nutritious content and high yield. In order to provide food requirement of increasing world population, high-energy crops and to increase the yield of these crops genetically modified crops were developed. After the Biosafety Law came into force 22 corn kinds used as feed were applied to Biosafety Board. As a result of the scientific evaluation of board, sixteen were decided as positive whereas six were negative. In this study classical and genetically modified corn kinds' usage as feed were assessed socio-economically with taken into consideration the scientific comity reports of Biosafety Board.
