Günümüz dünyasında turizm; özellikle ülkelere sağladığı ekonomik faydalarla ilgi odağı durumundadır. Bu nedenle Turizm literatüründe yer alan çalışmaların önemli bir bölümünün turizmin ekonomik cephesiyle ilgili olduğu gözlenmektedir. Çok geniş bir turizm potansiyeline sahip olan Türkiye, Atatürk liderliğindeki kadroların gerçekleştirdiği yapısal değişimlerle günümüzde bu potansiyelinin önemli bir bölümünü kullanır duruma gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Türk turizminin cumhuriyet dönemi boyunca ülke ekonomisi üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. İnceleme kapsamında turizmin gelir, istihdam, altyapı ve yabancı sermaye girişi gibi temel ekonomik etkileri esas alınmıştır. Araştırmada planlı dönem ve planlı dönem öncesi periyotlar karşılaştırılmış ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin turizm alanında yaptığı önemli atılım ortaya konmuştur.
Tourism is very important subject in today world because of its economic benefits on countries economy. For this reason, it is seen that important part of the studies in tourism literature are interested in economic aspect of tourism. Turkey has an endless tourism potential. Nowadays Turkey has used the important part of this potantial with structural changing activities which were done by Atatürk and his team. In this study, it is investigated the effects of tourism on Turkey's economy throughout history of Republic of Turkey. In this context, it is handled basic economic effects of tourism such as revenue, employment, infrastructure and foreign investment. It is compared that planned and preplanned periods of Turkey's economy in this study and it is also shown substantional improvement of Turkey in tourism area.
