Assoc. Prof. ERKAN KARAGÖZ

Biography

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Karagöz was born in Muğla. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Muğla. After graduating from Gazi University Faculty of Arts Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures/ Turcology (June 2005), he achieved a position as a research assistant in the same department (December 2005). He also taught foreign students Turkish language in Gazi TÖMER (Turkish Language Teaching Center), while keeping his position in the department (2008-2010). In Gazi University Social Sciences Institute Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects/Turcology he got his Master’s degree with his thesis Underwater World in Turkic Epopees (2009), and in the same institute got his Ph.D. degree with the thesis Comparative Motif Study On Tatar-Bashkir Magic Tales: Translation, Motif Determining (According to Motif-Index of Folk Literature) - Motif Index (2016). Tatar Children's Games – Playful Games – Survey | Dictionary Karagöz, who prepared his book as an associate professorship, received the title of associate professor from the Presidency of the Interuniversity Board (January 2023).

As a result of the division of Gazi University into two, with the Faculty of Arts included in the structure of the newly established Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Karagöz made a change in institution (May 2018). While Karagöz continues his academic studies on the folklore, languages ​​and literature of the Idel-Ural (Tatar and Bashkir) Turks under the roof of his new institution, he was appointed as a lecturer at the Turcology Department of the Algerian 2 Abou El Kacem Saadallah University, Faculty of Foreign Languages, by Yunus Emre Institute (2019-2020). After returning to Algeria, Karagöz continued his academic studies in his own institution and was appointed as an associate professor in his department (August 2023). With the assignment made by the Ministry of National Education (MoNE), Karagöz is currently working in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature Teaching at the Faculty of Education of the International University of Sarajevo (September 2023).

Karagöz, who completed his undergraduate, graduate and doctorate education at Gazi University, also participated in the summer school training program in Kazan within the framework of the bilateral protocol between Tisbi University of the Russian Federation-Tatarstan Republic and Gazi University (2011). He was sent by Gazi University to Georgia State University in the United States for education (2012). He spent part of his doctoral education in the Tatar Philology Department of Kazan Federal University in the Russian Federation-Tatarstan Republic within the scope of the "Mevlana Student Exchange Program" organized by YÖK (Higher Education Institution) (2015).

Karagöz was honored with the “Service Award” by TKAE (Turkish Culture Research Institute) (2011). He was deemed worthy of the "Ahmet Yesevi Folk Culture Young Researcher Award" (2016) and the "Zafertepe Science Award" (2022), given to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the National Struggle, by UAESEB (International Union of Eurasian Education Unions). Karagöz was also awarded the "International Publication Encouragement Award" (2020) by his own institution, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University.
