Biography

Fatih Savaşan received his bachelor's degree in Public Finance from the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University in 1993. After working for the Courts of Accounts of Turkey as a deputy auditor for a short period of time in 1994-95, he resigned and went to the USA to pursue M.A. and Ph.D degrees in economics. He received the degrees from the University of Colorado (Denver) in 1997 and from the University of Kansas in 2002, respectively. In 2002, he joined the Department of Public Finance at Uşak University where he served as a research assistant, later as an assistant professor until 2007 and associate professor until 2009. In 2009, he joined the Department of Public      Finance at Sakarya University and became professor in 2013. He was with Islamic Studies program at Stanford University as a visiting scholar in the Summer of 2013.


He held numerous administrative positions. He served as the vice dean in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Usak University, as the chair in the Department of Public Finance at Sakarya University, as the head in Kaynarca School of Applied Sciences and in the Institute of Social Sciences at Sakarya University. After serving as the vice rector in the National Defense University of Turkey he was appointed as the rector of Sakarya University. He was the founder chair of the Centre for Political, Economic, and Social Research (PESA). He also served as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Turkish Central Securities Depository (CSD) and as a member of the board of Teknopark İstanbul.

Savaşan has published numerous articles and books on hidden economy, international migration, taxation and public economics. Since 2012, his research has focused on Islamic Economics and Finance. He was amongst the founders of the Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance (ISEFAM) at Sakarya University, and contributed to organization of a number of workshops and congresses as the chair of the organizing committees. He served as a project manager, adviser and researcher in EU and public institutions projects.

Married with four children, Savaşan has been serving as the faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. He is currently serving as the member of the Tax Council of Turkey and as the head of Academics and Authors Association of Islamic Countries.
