Biyografi

Ümit Katırancı is an Ottoman historian specializing in Early Modern Ottoman History, having earned his BA from Middle East Technical University, his MA from Ankara University, and his PhD from Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. His primary research interests encompass Ottoman provincial administration, the integration of elites into the imperial system, the continuity of Anatolian Beylik families during Ottoman times, and settlement policies analyzed through the lens of social history. Dr. Katırancı is recognized for his extensive work on the Candaroğulları family, the provincial administration of Ottoman Empire, and 16th-century socio-religious movements. Furthermore, through his internationally published research on the Ottoman tax-farming (iltizam) system, he provides a detailed analysis of the historical development of fiscal institutions and state capacity. He currently works on his project "Continuity and the Probability of Early Termination in Ottoman Iltizam Contracts, 1500–1800: An Empirical Approach". He currently a faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University's Polatlı Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History.
